Landscaping new build back garden?

We are about to move into a new build with a small to medium garden, it is turfed but that’s it! We want to add some character, borders and children’s play area.

Any advise how best to go about. We are moving to Harpenden and initial quote was £20k which I couldn’t believe!

Give it some time to get used to the space, your ideas might change once you’re there. Note where the sun falls throughout the day.

Pinterest is a good resource for ideas on garden planning and planting. If employing a landscaper it’s often good to have your own ideas of the type of garden you want. Do you want just the hard landscaping done and you do the planting or do you want a complete garden?

I agree that it might be best to wait. How confident that the builders have turfed it properly?

I can't remember the name of it, but there is a gardening programme with Charlie Dimmock and two brothers and they give proposals to people who are landscaping their gardens. The people then choose whose design to go with and then they all create that garden. They have to incorporate things that the people request eg play areas, sculpture etc.

There have been some new builds on that - you could look on iplayer or youtube and see if you like any of them.

Welcome to Harpenden pricing Blush
If it's the lovely new houses by kinsbourne green they are so pretty. But where ever they are it's a lovely place to live just scary expensive ( hence we are moving)
Harpenden library is a good place for gardening books and they can order specific landscaping ones in ( I've just returned a load) also worth looking at gardening companies a little way away from Harpenden who cover the area ( further into Bedfordshire) as the prices will be more sensible.
