It’s a climber growing all over two parts of our fence. Looks like it’s about to flower. The stem is covered in furry prickles which itch if they catch your skin, has serrated leaves.

It looks like a nettle that’s decided to trail.

I'm pretty sure it's a hops plant. They are vigorous climbers and come into flower about now.

HoleyCoMoley · 26/07/2018 17:26

Is it a strawberry

WobblyLondoner · 26/07/2018 17:54

It's a hop for sure. Very deep roots I'm afraid, I've a patch in a large container and it's a bugger to get rid of. Good luck!

ThomasHardyPerennial · 26/07/2018 18:01

I agree, the leaves are a match for hops.

Thanks all. I think I’ll keep it in and under control rather than remove it as I’ve got a ton of bamboo that is taking all my mental and physical strength to get rid of. Previous owners should never be allowed near a garden again...

The hop identifiers were correct - it flowered quite beautifully in the last month!
