Can anyone identify this fruit for me? It's growing in the garden of our new house (next to a crab apple tree if that's relevant!).

It's a quince. Pretty pink flowers in Spring. Fruit can be made into jam but I have never tried.

Yes definately a quince they turn slightly yellow when ripe but still rock hard and very sour used to make membrillo which is delicious.

Ornamental quince. Not sure you can eat those but wont hurt you so give them a go.
