Is this a jasmine?

Morning Mumsnetters! Is this a jasmine and if so, how can I encourage it to climb up my fence? Do I need a trellis?

Yes it is! A trellis is a good idea, then you can tie/train it up, and look forward to delicious scented white flowers - lucky you!

Thanks Nan! I have another jasmine in the garden that hasn't really flowered this year yet - I'm wondering if it's because of the hot weather?

Looks as though the first one may have come through from next door. Jasmine is less likely to flower if it's not getting enough sun.

Funny as mine hasn't flowered for 2 years. It's in the sun. Normally has pink flowers.

There was some great advice on another thread here. You lead the plant along the bottom of the fence as far as you want, and it shoots up instead of just growing a tangled mess.

Apologies to whoever I stole that from, but it's my favourite gardening piece of advice ever.

Thanks Wowfudge. The one in the photo gets sun all day, and the other one for about half the day.

Chardonnay, that’s really useful thanks - I will try and find the thread (and buy a trellis!)
