Please help - something is eating our apples off the trees - badger or fox or something else?

We have 3 lovely dwarf sized apple trees Smile

Yesterday, 2 of them had lots of apples on them Smile

We have covered them in netting that has been pegged into the ground Smile

One of them had over 20 baby sized apples yesterday and today they are all gone, the pegs are pulled out but netting is still over the tree SadSadSad

So we have 1 tree left with lots of baby sized apples on Smile

We have now put 2 nets over it and are going to try to protect it with upturned garden chairs Smile

We have a woodland forest near to our house so it could be badgers or foxes or something else.

We are sure it isn't birds cos the net would protect them from birds and the pegs wouldn't be pulled out

The trees don't get damaged just the apples disappear overnight

The same thing happened last year

Does anyone have any ideas how we can protect these baby apples please?

Could it be squirrels? Brainy buggers can get in anywhere. The other creature smart enough to pull off netting, in my mind, would be crows. Highly intelligent, could easily pull out pegs to get at apples if they wanted them.

Ah, overnight, probably not crows. Maybe attach something noisy to the net? Empty tins close together or pan lids? Something that will rattle and scare off 🐀 or 🦊 or whoever is stealing the apples?
