Any idea on these water beasties?

Any idea what these little beasies are? Found them in a plastic tub that the kids use for water play. They are tiny - size of a toddler finger nail and they have a split tail which they use to swim in a jerky mannar. DD5 wants to keep them in a jam jar and see what they emerge into.

Thanks!

They're not coming into the house now. Down the drain !!

Yup definitely mozzies. About the only thing I'm quite happy to kill :)

not down the drain
pour onto soil - use the water
mossie larvae will still die

Urgh...our pond has loads of those in it - I did wonder what they were. I'm hoping the three resident frogs eat as many of them as possible, as there's not a lot I can do to get rid of them.

You say pond. Mossies see a gorgeous hotel. 😀
