Wormery......any experience ?

I'm moving soon and want to start being more friendly regards composting etc. My daughter suggested we get a wormery but I have no idea other than Alan Titchmarsh recommends them Blush

Has anyone got one or had one in the past, if so what are the pros and cons and any designs that work better? Apparently a 3 tier works very well?

Thanks in advance

3 tiers are good.
They need some basic 'bedding' plus food, but not too much at once and go easy on the protein.
Wriggly Wrigglers site is full of useful info.

We got the worm cafe from wriggly wriggles. It has three tears and tap for liquid plant food. It is definitely good to have three tiers- our first workers was just a bin with a tap and we didn't get much compost from it because you have to dig down through the yucky layers!

The only problem Ifind with it is that the tap gets blocked and then needs loosening by hand which means putting a hand into the sump.

It has lasted well though including through BLW with two kids. It got a bit too much fruit and got too acidic then so I had to add lime mix and cardboard to recover it but other than that it has been great.

It still can't break down avocado skins though!

I tried. They all tried to escape when they started to get unhappy after 3 weeks. Changed the bedding completly. They still continued to escape and eventually they started to get all wonkey and they all died died.

It was great until it when wrong and no one could tell us what was the problem.

I have not tried again. Hope you have better luck.

I tried but they all drowned during a really bad winter. I have more success with a Dalek bin. I gave ithe wormer away...
