Cutting back a holly bush

Can I cut it back now? Rather than in winter or spring? It's huge, like an enormous Christmas tree, and its leaves are driving me and my otherwise comfortable lawn and soft feet insane. I'm planning to just whack at the bits I can reach with shears as I don't have a proper hedge trimmer or branch cutter? Thought I'd ask first in case this would be a disastrous course of action! TIA.

I cut mine back now, but I don’t care about the berries, there yellow. If you want the berries leave it till the spring. If it’s just a nuisance, like mine( part of hedge) cut away.

Excellent. Thank you. Berries are the least of my worries! :)
