Planting up a wall

I have an old flint wall about 20m long that has an existing planting trough built within it. It's opposite my house and borders my driveway and the road verge.

I want to dig the whole thing out and start again and am looking for advice for a variety of plants to put in. I'd like to achieve the following:

  • colour through all seasons (or as long as possible), with bulbs, early flowering and late flowering plants
  • hardy plants and some evergreen so there is greenery rather than 'brownery' through winter
  • some height (no more than 25-30cm), but also some trailers
  • not more than three colours

Would love to hear your suggestions on bulb and plant combinations that would achieve this.
