To give a bit of background about why this is so important - my SIL has a rose (Sophie's Perpetual) in honour of my niece who was stillborn in March.

The rose was beautiful (first picture) but has developed - we think - black spot (second picture)

Also she says the roots are lifting out of the soil.

Much Gin for any rose experts who can advise

So sorry about your niece. Cut off the affected black spot leaves and makes sure they’re binned, spray with Rose clear. Most roses get black spot in dry weather. That should sort it.
The compost around the rose has probably compacted, mulch with some more.
Also get some rose fertiliser to keep it in tip top condition.

Was it planted recently? It will need lots of love and attention in this weather- agree with a good mulch of compost and a feed- and lots of water first thing and last thing every day.

Sorry about your niece- that's a lovely way to remember her.
