Fence that gets sun from midday onwards

Could I put a clematis on it? would something like a hydranga shade the roots enough?

I would think it would be ok. I’ve got clematis on all sides of my garden, except on the north wall. I usually put some stones around the base to protect the roots.

I guess I can put stones round the roots - I know they need shade

I bought a clematis from Aldi in April and popped it on a trellis that gets sun only part of the day, it's grown quickly and has about fifteen flowers on it at the moment. I also put stones around the base.
