Flies in ivy!

For some reason (heatwave?) we seem to have a huge amount of bluebottles in our ivy. Anyone got any ideas how to deter them? Can cut the ivy down as it’s basically holding our rickety fence together!!

If you've got bluebottles, they will have hatched from maggots, which means there's a carcass nearby - ugh. They won't be attracted to the ivy itself. Are you sure they're not hoverflies, which eat greenfly etc.

Inspect the area around you for dead animals or anything that might be decomposing. Check your neighbors also if they have decomposing bins that are that being maintained properly.
