Hi

Does anyone know what This is please? It's started growing in my garden, is about three foot High and from an old stump that's not been active since we moved here four years ago, the leaves are really big!

It looks like Rheum, Chinese rhubarb. Don’t eat it! It has ornamental flowering stalks and can grow quite big.

Thank you and blimey I think you might be right, just googled the image, here's a leaf close up and it's got the same rhubarb type stalks, just thin.

I wonder what made that suddenly spring to life.Confused

When you say it’s coming from a stump do you mean a woody piece? Rheums are entirely herbaceous, no wood but they have a lumpy flaky crown which doesn’t get more than a few inches high, and have quite phallic looking new growths in the spring.

Hydrangea quercifolia this morning
