Has anyone broken up concrete to make a flower bed?

I want to create a flower bed next to my front door where the driveway is brick with concrete underneath. I've prized up some bricks but need to break up and remove the concrete beneath. Any experience of this? Any advice about tools?

Sledgehammer if it is not too thick.

I used a concrete breaker from the hire shop - it was excellent fun. Clearing the rubble and taking it to the tip was no fun at all so I would recruit some help with the labouring on that bit.

God I love mumsnet, you can ask literally anything and get some good advice. [Grin]

So, I don't know how thick it is sadly and don't have a sledgehammer. I was thinking of hiring a breaker. Elizabeth, did you use a medium or heavy duty?

Hmmm. Can't actually remember - medium, probably. It looked like a small pneumatic drill.

You can the concrete I was digging up wasn't that thick. You might need a heavier duty one if you have brick with concrete as well.

Thanks for the picture. I've ordered a medium and will hope for the best. Your looks heavy duty so maybe I should've got one like that. Dunno.
