Can anyone identify the insect below please which we found at the foot of a tree?

Excellent spot, shutthedoor - this is another photo of a cockchafer and I agree with you that is what it is.

Yes it does look like one, thank you. Never spotted one before but as long as it is not going to cause a rash or anything it seems as if it will go soon.

I quite like cockchafers but they're noisy fliers - very clattery!
