Had clematis for 6-7 years - beautiful pink flowers and been growing strong and providing a bit of privacy between me and neighbours garden. This year, completely dead! Brown and dry, no buds at all . Why? Any ideas? I'll have to cut it all back and start again Confused

No idea, but I cut mine back pretty much completely each year and they grow back very strongly anyway so I would give it a try. Might also be worth getting a cheap one from a supermarket (quite a few selling them at the mo) and plant that up for this year?

I’ve tried growing clematis three times. The first time it took but didn’t thrive and then petered out. The last two times it has died. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong but I’ve given up.

It's weird eh - I grew two together - one took, one never but survived and stayed small with beautiful flowers - the one that's huge died and the small one with stunning flowers lives on. Hey ho that's life I suppose!

I'm not having much luck as a clematis grower! Mine are all 3yrs old. I cut them back at the correct time, keep their roots shady, give them nice netting to climb up as well as trellis...I'm repaid with about 3 buds and barely any leaves! Hmm

My £1.39 one from Aldi has only been on the trellis for 6 weeks or so, it's got loads of buds and one flower has opened today. I'll make the most of it Incase it's the first and last time.
