We have a north facing garden which does get some sun in the summer. I’d like to plant a few climbers on the garden walls and was originally thinking hydrangea and clematis, but they’re both toxic for cats. We have a well-loved but not very intelligent cat so would like to stick to non-toxic plants wherever possible.
To clarify, I’d be planting these on our brick garden wall. So while the garden faces north, the walls would face east and southeast. Our soil is heavy clay.
So far all I can think of is roses. I do also have allergies (to complicate things even more) so large, insect-pollinated flowers are generally better.
Any ideas?
