Do you grow gingers?

I'd like to start growing them (one or two) in my new garden. I've got a spot next to wall which the light will travel to through the greenhouse. I reckon it's really well sheltered and will be warm.

Any top tips on varieties and care? I'm a well experienced gardener but have never had a warm enough spot for ginger.

I used to grow several, but the only one I now grow is Hedychium gardnerianum. Easy, vigorous and flowers every year with lovely fragrance

Trethew how do you overwinter them?

FraxinusExcelsior plant them in a container that you can easily lift you might need to bring them indoors for winter

I have a patch in a well drained raised bed which stay there over the winter. I put loads of compost over the top and hold it in place with fleece as winter protection. Also some in a pot which I bring into cold greenhouse. The pot is a reserve in case I lose those in the ground. This year the pot froze and went to mush, but those in the ground are now shooting, about 6”. (I’m in Cornwall)

@IlikemyTeahot aww he/she is very cute!

That's the first and last time I've seen mine sleeping in a pot Grin It was a warm early spring day and the compost must've warmed up irresistibly. The pots were filled shortly after!
