What's this taking over my flower bed?

I'm not in any way a gardener.

What is this rapidly taking over part of my flower bed and even moving on to my lawn?

TIA

What's this taking over my flower bed?

Looks like a chilli plant but unlikely!

Theworldisfullofgs · 04/06/2018 18:20

Have you looked at the roots?

TERFragetteCity · 04/06/2018 18:21

Persicaria.

Freaklikemeee · 04/06/2018 18:22

Mint?

Persicaria

Greyspots · 04/06/2018 20:22

Maybe it's persicaria. Would that completely take over a flower bed and start to make a move on the lawn? I've noticed it coming up in quite a few places now.

There are lots of lovely garden worthy persicarias, and plenty of weeds too (same family as Russian vine and Japanese knotweed). This looks like one of our native weed ones, will prob have little pink flower spikes in due course. Suggest you weed it out. Mowing should get rid of it in the lawn. No need to panic

Thanks. I've already pulled a lot out of the flower beds and mowed the lawn. I'll try and keep in top of it and hope I can get rid of it. It all appeared so quickly from nowhere.
