Until very recently I'd assumed all 4 of these plants were rosebay willow herb however they've grown incredibly over the weekend and I can now see diffences.. any thoughts on identification would be gratefully received!

Looks like two different plants - the bottom one is some sort of sage or hedge nettle. The top one has different leaves.

Is the second one a Salvia?

MyNameIsJane · 29/05/2018 21:21

4 is a weed.

Roystonv · 29/05/2018 21:23

I think second salvia too

Tiddlywinks63 · 29/05/2018 21:24

No.1 might be a Campanula
No.2 Salvia as pp said?
No.3 I think could be Shasta Daisy or Rudbeckia
No.4 no idea, sorry!

MattBerrysHair · 29/05/2018 22:09

3 is an aster or solidago I believe, and 4 is willowherb.

Ohyesiam · 29/05/2018 22:12

Thanks all. I think phlox is right for 1 (which would be nice as it looks very pretty and has evidently self seeded because it wasn't here before), 2 I agree with salvia, 4 agree with rosebay willow herb (I know it's officially a weed but I think I'll let it continue as it's pretty Smile). Still confused about 3 though.. I don't think it's any of the plants that have been mentioned.. it's about 18 inches tall and growing everywhere!

(We're having a drainage channel and a new fence in the garden in July, at which point I have accepted that it will get completely trampled by the builders hence leaving it to do its own thing in the meantime.. which is proving to be quite interesting!)

Three looks like it could be purple loosestrife

notsolittlegrebe · 01/06/2018 08:03

Hmm, I don't know soulrider, the leaves are kind of jagged whereas the pics of loosestrife I've seen show it as smooth.. I've pulled up a bit to stop it completely taking over the garden and will just wait till it flowers I think and do some more research again.

Thanks all!
