Best place to get slate/woodchip?

I'm trying to get my garden under control and am really struggling with one area which I'm thinking of just covering in woodchip or slate. It's a rented house, so don't want to spend a fortune!

Automatic thought is b&q, but I don't know how expensive they are compared to others? I'm guessing they can get away with being expensive because it is everyone's first thought. Is it the sort of thing I can Amazon prime?!

Phone a local tree surgeon and see if s/he had any going spare. They might be willing to drop off or, if you have a car, you can collect.

You could contact a local tree surgeon; they often have wood chippings they need to get rid off/sell.

Homebase has both on offer at the moment, I saw some this morning.

I had no idea tree surgeons would do that! Guess I never thought about what they did with it all after
