Non flowering magnolia

We live in an area abundant with magnolia. We moved into our current home 3 years ago but the house has been in the family forever. In the garden is an evergreen magnolia which has not flowered in the 15 years it has been there. The leaves are lush and green. It looks the picture of health. The deciduous magnolia in the front garden was covered in flowers. Any tips on encouraging it to flower? I have fed it and given it a stern talking to but to no avail.

Is it a Magnolia Grandiflora? (Google it!) If it is, it may still be a bit young to flower, believe it or not. However, the flower buds also hate frost, so if you are in a northern or exposed location, this could be an issue for the longer term.

Hi Pig. Well it looks like a Grandiflora so I'll give it another few years before I shout at it again. We are in the soft south so few problems with very hard frosts and it is in a sheltered spot so there is hope.

This year has been exceptionally cold, very late. Fingers crossed for next!
