Just returned from a 2 week holiday and discovered this all over my salad patch. We also have ground elder which has mainly gone but this is new and quite prolific!

Looks like bindweed. You need to get rid of every bit you see. It is a bloody nuisance.

Convolvulaceae? That’s bindweed. Leaves loo right. It’s a little bastard to get rid of but it strangled everything.

Hatewaybuloo · 21/05/2018 06:17

AH dammit, hadn’t spotted it before, and yes it’s started to strangle everything that’s come up in the last few weeks, how annoying! Thanks for letting me know what this is

Best way to clear that is careful roundup use. Gently gather the leaves into a plastic bag and carefully spray roundup into the bag. Secure with a clothesline, leave to die.

I try to avoid weedkiller, but it did a stupendous job on my bindweed infested borders, and in my hedge that was full of the large kind.

Clothes peg not line!

LizTaylorsFabulousTurban · 21/05/2018 07:33

Yes unfortunately weedkiller was the only thing that got rid of mine too. It can grow from such a short root piece, it's infuriating.

The good thing, though, is that it is one huge network, so if you bag and spray a few bits, it takes out loads as the poison travels around the little bastarding roots.
