Can anyone identify this plant please? We moved in about 18 months ago, and it dies down in winter and comes up in spring. Green fingered MIL and I think it looks like a peony but it hasn’t flowered in the two springs we’ve been here!

What is this?

I don't think it's a peony. But i don't know what it might be instead!

It’s really annoying!!

Looks like a peony to me. I had one that didn’t flower well so moved it to a different spot and now it’s got loads of flower buds

It doesn’t flower at all! No buds in two seasons and it looks pretty established. I’ve been scouring plant ID sites which is like looking for a needle in a haystack.

If it is a peony, I’ve just read that if they’re planted too deep they’ll never flower. May have to dig them up...

How tall is it, could it be a Hosta?

Ohyesiam · 17/05/2018 20:01

It doesn’t look quite like a peony, but I have one that took 5 years to flower. So it at just be a reluctant one of a different variety.

I'd say it's a peony too. If they're planted too deep they don't
flower - or not for years. They're quite particular about the depth
of planting.

It looks like a peony to me..

It's definitely a peony and if you look at the right hand side of the picture there seems to be a flower bud.

Oh well spotted! I didn’t even notice that! Just went out to look, missed it at first and there’s a tiny little bud! Yay!
