Do you think I could make a raised bed here?

You can hopefully see in the attached pic that this corner of my garden is a)very boring and b) surrounded by a large hedge and a (larch?) tree. Is there any way a raised corner bed would work? I would love to put some colour there but not sure if anything would thrive. I'm something of a novice so any ideas and advice gratefully received! Thanks.

Where does the Sun come from in relation to your picture? I think a raised bed is your best bet as the roots of the hedge/trees will rob the soil beneath of moisture and nutrients. If you like annual flowering bedding plants, there is a wide choice available now at garden centres. If you want perennial shrubs, then the selection will depend very much on how the light hits that area. Would pay to trim the hedge back and possibly remove the lowest limbs of the tree.

Thank you for your reply. It is in the sun for most of the day. The hedge definitely needs a good cut. I was thinking a shrub or two then I could fill in the gaps with annuals. Any suggestions for shrubs? I'd love something colourful if possible.
