Compost too wet

I got a compost bin a while ago and am having my first go at composting. I've just been chucking in kitchen fruit & veg waste, plus shredded confidential documents and grass cuttings (no other garden waste). Today, I turned it for the first time and it looks very wet and a bit slimy. Seems I haven't got my balance right. What else can I put in to dry it out a bit?

Lots of torn up paper and cardboard (loo roll tubes are good). I think you should be aiming for about 25% of the mix to be that sort of stuff. Grass cuttings do go slimy unless you've got a majorly hot heap on the go already.

How small do you have to tear it up?

the smaller you tear , the quicker it will compost, same as your veg peelings etc Kitchen towel is also good for going in the compost, helps with the balance.

Thanks! I'll try that.
