The bin has been here since before we moved in 3 years ago. We've been sticking in leaves and garden waste etc but now decided to get rid as it's taking up space and the council collects our garden waste anyway.
So, today I have removed the top layer of leaves/weeds (to dump in our garden waste bin) which has revealed an older layer of what looks like soil and which is also crawling with ants! I'm currently throwing in a load of boiling water to kill them (poor ants) but once they are dispatched can I just use the soil as ordinary compost like you'd buy at the garden centre? We're re doing one of the borders - should I just dig it in? Does it matter that a) I don't know what actually went in to it and b)it will be full of dead ants and ant larvae?
Thanks in advance for any advice..
