Weed killer - should I succumb?

Hi,

I've spent the last week trying to hand weed my small garden. Should I now get a weed killing spray to really ensure they don't come back. Or just keep in at it. It feels a bit never ending though I've got out the dandelions, most of the wide green leaf ones and the ones that look like green blossom but are actually big weeds. And my garden now looks patchy so do I then add grass seed? I'm a real novice.....

It depends what you want to end up with. A lawn? Flower beds? Shrubs?
Can you post a few photos?
I manage to garden without weed killer but I’m not too bothered about things like daisies in the grass

Using a hoe is a good method to keep small annual weeds at bay, it IS a never-ending job throughout the summer months. I do use weedkiller, but only on obstinate things like brambles etc. which can't be dug out. Where do intend to put grass seed?

Right, you could use a weed-and-feed mixture on the lawn, which should kill any lawn weeds, and feed it as well - a spring or summer one. I have this done by Green Thumb every year, and it's made quite a difference, but you can do it yourself. Then just mow it regularly - at least once a week, which should deter any further weeds.

Cut the lawn and gather up the cuttings, scarify it if you can and use ‘feed and weed’ Should be fine.

Thank you all, that’s really helpful. There appears to be an offer of £10 from green thumb for small gardens but failing that, I’ll do it myself.
