Where’s my peony gone???

It’s been beautiful for about 12 years and this year there’s no sign of it? Can they suddenly die? I’m blaming the weather!
Should I leave it and see if anything happens next year?

Are the roots/tubers still there? If so and there is no growth yes its dead. If not then the phantom peony snatcher has been round,or you’ve moved it and forgotten about it.

Just been to check again and there’s a very tiny glimmer of dark pink sprouting through. It seems very late so hopefully it’ll come through ok!!!

Dark pink is a good sign. Feed the plant with Growmore type food, ensure good drainage, mulch around the crown but leave the crown itself exposed.

Slow emergence suggests you might have the plant positioned in a cold pocket or there is too much shade, since they like full sun. Also check for pests around the root system once the plant has finished flowering.

Mine haven’t come out this year either, gutted! I relocated some but even the ones I didn’t move are nowhere to be seen (just some stems)

I have a beautiful species peony which is being very slow this year, but I think it's OK.... The bog standard peonies are up and looking good.
Might have been due to the very cold winter and spring. It's gorgeous for about two weeks of the year and that's it!

Yes this one is slightly unusual. It's white and not the standard type. It's always absolutely beautiful and will be gutted if it disappears!
Looks very much like the one here!
