Does anyone else have pink trees?!

I seem to have two, quite different, pink trees growing in my garden. Not cherries but two other vivid pink trees. Does anyone know what these are?

Is the top one a tamarisk?

Dementedswan · 10/05/2018 21:53

They are beautiful! Place marking as I want one.

This is our first spring in our new house so we weren't expecting such colour!

I think the second one is a lilac.

Dementedswan · 10/05/2018 22:11

I've got a lilac tree, it's very old now as came with the house but it's flowers are white and it's not even starting to bud yet.

smerlin · 11/05/2018 06:20

The flowers look white close up but the whole tree has a pink hue from afar if that makes sense. Am trying to Google images lilac trees!

Do you live near the sea ?

glitterbiscuits · 11/05/2018 08:06

They are a tamarisk and a lilac.

glitterbiscuits · 11/05/2018 08:08

Tamarisks can get very tall and my father always told me that lilacs take a lot of nutrients from the soil. Not sure if that’s true but the tamarisk is. We have one that’s huge!

AmIAWeed · 11/05/2018 09:23

I love the Tamarisk, does anyone know if they drop loads of petals like blossom trees?
My husband wants a few blossom trees but i'm a smidge reluctant due to the carpet of petals left, our neighbour across the road has a gorgeous pink tree, for about 2 weeks and now all houses around him including ours is covered!!

userxx · 11/05/2018 14:08

I've never seen one of those before - gorgeous.

Idratherhaveacupoftea · 11/05/2018 14:59

I have 2 lilacs, one purple, one white. The smell is gorgeous but mine have already finished flowering, you are lucky to have a pink one.

smerlin · 11/05/2018 21:23

Thank you so much everyone- I love this board! Tamarisk and lilac definitely seem to be the ones after cross referencing with Google! The tamarisk does drop petally things everywhere but is at the end of our garden so don't mind too much!
