We cut this shrub back a year or two ago and it is shooting again. Any ideas please?

Looks like hazelnut.

So it will keep returning each time it is coppiced, unless you dig it out fully. Or you let it grow and get lovely tasty hazelnuts.

Hazel. If you leave it alone you will gets nuts by September. Lucky you!

LIZS · 09/05/2018 13:33

I think it’s a camellia.

LIZS · 09/05/2018 14:31

Ooh that sounds nice - can you move them easily (currently behind shed which seems a waste)

Also looks like camellia to me but rather tall and lanky rather than a round bush. Before moving it I would right now water a lot and keep it watered and mulched with acidic bark over the summer. Then I would note whether it is a winter or a spring/summer camellia, and then decide on location depending on that. If it hasn’t bloomed yet feed it well and keep it moist and at some point it will bloom. My cammelias get leftover bananas, eggshells and nettle/comfrey tea as well as bark to keep them from drying out. Yours looks happy though.

Cammelias like dapple shady damp areas
