How much for a garden designer

I have a small garden and I'm clueless . I need help? Has anyone used a garden designer and how much did they cost and were they worth it? I feel a bit silly doing it for such a small space but I really need help!

It's kind of a how long is a piece of string question. We have a large garden (nearly half an acre, front and back total) and our garden design + site survey came in at just under £1500. Then more obviously for the landscape plan, landscaping, materials, etc etc. Design was definitely the cheapest part of the horribly expensive process of getting our garden done, and well worth it. No way I could have come up with the design myself...

My garden is 27 feet square. My designer was recommended by the Landscaper and she charged £400.

Well happy if your garden is small it will be considerably less than it cost us!
We found our designers through an extensive google search - I looked at the websites for all the designers I could find local to us (probably close to 100) and short-listed the ones we like the look of and contacted them to find out prices, etc.
