What is this rather beautiful insect - I really hope it’s something you want to find in your garden...

And what are the brown spots on this plant? I grew the plants from seed last year but can’t actually remember what they are now!

I think that is a Rosemary beetle, which has only fairly recently reached these shores. It's larvae feed on Rosemary (obviously!) Lavender and other related plants, in fact, it's quite a pest if you grow those plants, so if you have some, keep a watch out for any larvae on them.
Not sure about the brown spotting, but it's quite typical of a fungal disease.

You’re right, it is a rosemary beetle. A couple of weeks ago I bought a rosemary plant but haven’t got round to planting it yet. I’ll check it for larvae although probably a bit late now? The RHS is collecting info on where it is seen.

Can’t find a picture to compare it, but last year I grew a gaura with blotchy leaves like that. They were all the same at the garden centre and it grew well
