Cost of a gardener

Hi, how much do gardeners charge? My mum's wants £20 per hour which is more than I get paid as a qualified nurse with lots of qualifications! Is he being a cheeky bugger or is that the going rate? She's a pensioner and £40 to weed a section of garden is more than her weekly food budget.

My husband is a gardener in Gloucestershire and charges £15. As far was we can tell the going rate around here is between £12 and £15.

I don't think £20 is unreasonable tbh but if it's only weeding/mowing you might get one for less. The problem is that your wages are too low!

That's per hour, BTW. He also will only charge half an hr id that's all he's done.

I'm a gardener and only charge £10 an hour. But I don't have fancy tools, just do general weeding, digging and planting.

We had one last year who we used to pay £15 per hour, very well established but he moved and our current chap charges £16.50 p/h. North essex. He has also been doing it for 10yrs plus.

MyCatIsABiggerBastardThanYours does he cover Malvern? have a feeling we've just been seriously ripped off and need semi regular help......

cloudtree · 24/04/2018 15:56

Mine is £12 an hour but the last one charged us £20 an hour.

Me again!
Can raspberries be grown in containers? My garden is completely decked so no beds for anything. Raspberries are costing me a fortune to buy as they are one of the few fruits I can eat so I'd love to grow some.

As long as its a decent sized pot. You'd need a large one

I pay £18/hour here outside London but within m25. Gardener provides their own tools but doesn't rake away garden waste. Does weeding, planting, tubing, general upkeep. I have three brown garden waste bins which are emptied fortnightly.
