How to get rid of this?

Climbing ivy. Stuck solid to the wall and now it's growing again because we gave up trying to pull it off. Any chemicals or home made solutions to kill the roots? Before we spend a bit of money on a full garden renovation

First of all it's easier to cut it at ground level and let it die before trying to pull it off the wall, secondly know what's on the other side (ie if neighbour has a wall full of it it will be harder to keep it under control). You can get that herbicide that you apply to the cut ends, then dig the roots out, but ivy is troublesome and you'll have to keep on top of it.

I have ivy all down one side of my garden .It comes from an uncultivated piece of land next to me .

I've got better over the years at cutting it back . I used to use hedging shearsand cut off the soft bits.
Now I look for the thick main stems and cut with with secateurs .

I have found it's easier to pull off the fence from the top down . That it's a nightmare trying to cut it in the summer as it's SO dusty .

I now cut it early in the year ,hopefully avoiding bird nests .

I find one of those decorators hop ups invaluable .

I must admit that my approach is to keep it in check ,I don't think I'd be able to eradicate it .

Sbk painted onto the leaves whilst it is actively growing ( so now and during the summer) will kill ivy. You might have to do it several times but it will die.
