I bought a lavatera plant last summer. I pruned it hard in the autumn as it had grown massive. Nothing is happening to it at the moment- it just looks like dead sticks! I am reading now I should have pruned in spring- have I killed it??!!

It doesn’t look very encouraging, I’m afraid.
Snip one of the branches off at the bottom, if there’s no green, then it’s probably gone.
In my experience, unless they’re in the right place they don’t last long anyway. I have more success with the annual variety.

Ah, patience is needed. I forgot, I have one growing as a standard, in a pot!!
It has not started to show signs of life either. It doesn’t really like the pot so I might plant it out.

Just looked, definitely buds on mine. They are a darkish colour so not immediately obvious.
