Can I learn to love creeping buttercup?

I have so much creeping buttercup in my lawn this year, but I'm really reluctant to use weedkiller. Can it work instead of grass? Clover is great in a lawn, but will I regret it if I let the buttercup have its way?

I love my buttercups/ daisies/ violets/ clover/ primroses in my lawn. I’m not striving for bowling green so I cut around them when I think they might flower. Even dandilions are tolerated. The only things that get yanked are the thistles and brambles that appear out of nowhere.

If you already have lots of creeping buttercups I think you might already have lost the battle and it’s probably not worth starting a war with them unless you really want a pristine lawn.

Can you or anyone else who lives with their weeds post pics to encourage me?

My lawn is currently mid calf length so it’s not the best advertisement! But there are lovely little white flowers in it at the moment.

I also forgot to mention last year we had a huge crop of wild strawberries from the lawn edges. Delicious.

i too am struggling with this. i like weeds in a lawn as they look pretty but i'd also like some grass. I am experimenting by putting down some thick black plastic and trying to kill some of it off as i didnt want to use weedkiller - we have a lovely thrush amongst other things

Primroses, little white flowers, and one of the edges with wild marjoram, wild strawberries etc.

Thanks for the photos! I've tried to dig up loads of the buttercup because otherwise I'm afraid I'll have no grass left at all. But of course there is still loads left. And now loads of bare patches! So I'm hoping I won't regret this.

I had it in some paddocks and the only way is to use weedkiller. It will spread and eventually strangle the grass.

I have cuckoo flower/lady’s smock, harebells, red clover, Achillea and wild violets in my lawn, as well as 100 other plants. I love most of them
But cannot love the buttercups or dandelion types and dig them up bit by bit. I wouldn’t use weed killer though as it would harm the bees and frogs, and stop the harebells and violets coming up, which would be a great shame :(

That's weird, we have buttercup in margins, where I weed it out, but never in the lawns. I wonder why? Plenty of daisies, dandelions, plantains & thistles in the lawn.
