They look very much like beech trees.

brownelephant · 15/04/2018 15:32

that looks like it's a newly (ish) planted beech hedge.

IntelligentYetIndecisive · 15/04/2018 15:32

Seconded.

Copper beech.

Igneococcus · 15/04/2018 15:32

Thanks all, that was quick! This is my first garden after living in a flat for 7 years and I'm very keen to start some planting in the back! Do I need to do anything do with these? Water regularly? No idea what I'm doing 😁

no, it's almost mainenance free once established.
you need to cut it so it doesn't encroach too much on pavement but that's about it.

StripySocksAndDocs · 15/04/2018 16:22

How close are they?

Presume they are planted as hedging.

Weed and water (though it's probably ok for water now if you've similar weather

I cut my hedge just above head height. If you let it get too tall it’s a bit of a pain.
