Can anyone recommend a climbing rose for me please ? Am looking for a long-flowering, low maintenance rose to grow up a west-facing sheltered wall. No preference as to colour but would prefer not white. Thanks !

Not sure but look on the Style Roses website. Great company bought many times.

I have a Albertine rose, it’s pale pink and very fragrant I love it 😊

I can recommend David Austen’s James Galway Rose - vigorous, good disease resistance and a long flowering season. David Austin roses are a little pricey, but in my experience worth the few extra pounds.

Second David Austin roses. Very high quality. They have a decent selection of climbing roses (James Galway really is lovely)

I've order (as presents) three different roses on different occasions. All very high quality, and thier delivery was faultless each time.

Madame Alfred carriere would be ideal, but the flowers are white tinged with a bit of pink. Vigorous, long flowering, climbing, repeat flowering.

David Austin ‘Lady of Shallot’ fantastic fragrance, peach multi petals and repeat flowering.

These are fantastic suggestions - the James Galway really is beautiful. Thank you all. I love the colour of the Lady of Shallot, but is is it a climber ? It looks like a shrub in the David Austen website.

If you like yellow, then Graham Thomas is great. A vigorous grower, very reliable and loads of blooms throughout a long season. Decide whether you want lots of small flowers or larger blooms. With climbers I prefer the larger blooms. I find that with the clusters of small blooms, some start to die before the others in the same cluster are out. This means constant dead-heading or Looking at half faded roses.

Lady of Shallot also comes as a climber from DA, but I think they may have discontinued it in that form.
I have one, planted last year and just sprouting. Sorry I don’t have a photo of it in flower.
I’m planting a collection of famous people climbers. So far D’arcy Bussell, Lady of Shallot and Claire Austin to climb through/ in front of next doors Leyllandi hedge.

You can get it on line from a variety of nurseries.

Banksiae lutea - pretty, yellow, well shaped flowers and a great climber.

Generous Gardener - it flowers...and flowers...and flowers. It's also virtually indestructible. Although my real favourite is Gertrude Jekyll

Blush Noisette - pink, repeat flowering, fragrant, disease resistant.

Danse Du Feu - red, repeat flowering, fragrant.
