Please help with this flower - I have no idea what it is and yet, after the rains and with me not having weeded at all, this has sprung up in several places in the garden. The leaves are in the picture too, and due to the similarities I was expecting it to be Lords -and Ladies as I definitely have lots of those in the garden, with a long spire and red berries in the summer ( but leaves of the same size and shape). But this is completely unknown and not planted by me so, so I suspect wildflower.
Thank you very very much.

And the flowerbuds look like lilies but I have not planted any. I have a very old garden though.

I planted some in the Autumn, have come up now, but I can’t remember what they are. Perhaps Toadlillies? I will look them up!

its a trout lily -erythronium

M0RVEN · 09/04/2018 22:12

I think is an Erythronium , perhaps one called “ Pagoda”.

Is it growing in a moist area under trees ? that’s where they like to live

JT05 · 09/04/2018 22:15

Yes, Erythronium. I’d forgotten I’d planted them!

Harebellmeadow · 09/04/2018 22:21

Thanks! Yes, mostly popped up in shadier/moister bits, but also to my surprise in my sunny central flower bed and also one sunny south facing rose bed which gets completely parched in summer (hence I am perplexed) . Yep, have looked up troutlily and erythronium and it matches! Thanks for solving the mystery.

And @morven - it really looks thesame as the Pagoda cultivar. Thanks Star

You’re welcome.

Once the flowers are fading you can dig up the rogue one in the dry rose bed and move it to beside its little friends in the shade. It will be happier there.
