I need to work or how to prune this, which means I need to be able to Google it. Can anyone identify it? It's about 7 foot tall at its peak

I think it's a Choisya, Mexican orange. Have you seen it flower?

MrsBertBibby · 08/04/2018 17:06

The leaves don't look right for choisya to me.

Is it a laurel?

MoreHairyThanScary · 08/04/2018 17:26

I think laurel too if so it's evil and will never die ...bitter experience!

JT05 · 08/04/2018 19:10

Either way, if it’s not as you want it I’d prune. You won’t kill it, both plants are very tough.
If it’s Choysia then you will get fewer flowers.

I've done some comparisons with Choisya and I'm just not sure. We bought the house from landscape architects, so there are some weird and wonderful plants in the garden. I'll prune it and let you know what happens! I can't for the life of me remember if it flowers or not...

Not laurel. The leaves look as if they are curling which isn't quite right for Sundance. Are the backs of the leaves white? Can you post a closeup of the leaves please

Theworldisfullofidiots · 09/04/2018 06:28

It looks like choisya to me too.

kally195 · 09/04/2018 10:55

More pics. First is the back of a leaf.

Or not, as they've posted in a completely different order. Second is the back of a leaf!

Might these be flower buds?

May it's portuguese laurel rather than cherry laurel?

Are the stems ever red?

Still don't think it's chisya, but it isn't cherry laurel either.

shushpenfold · 09/04/2018 11:44

Doesn’t look like Portuguese Laurel to be honest.

Trethew · 09/04/2018 12:05

Not Portugal laurel . How about Pittosporum tobira??

kally195 · 09/04/2018 12:22

I think @Trethew has it! It looks identical to Pittosporum tobira. Right - off to look it up properly...

Hope it is! Deliciously fragrant pale yellow flowers

toothgenie64 · 09/04/2018 13:42

New pictures a bit clearer, now not convinced about Choisya.
