Greenhouse tips for beginner

Our new house has a greenhouse. I like to start using it but I've no idea what I'm doing!

What can I grow that's really easy for a beginner?

Any handy tips?

Thanks for any help.

Cucumber is easy ....alongside lettuce....

Tomatoes are slightly trickier but fun!!.

If it starts to get hot in the greenhouse during summer open it up....it shouldn't be a hothouse...only shelteyed from out side....everything will wilt in about two hours if it gets roasting!!

Before using it, give it a good clean to get rid of any resident bugs and diseases: www.gardenersworld.com/how-to/grow-plants/how-to-clean-a-greenhouse/

Is there a water butt nearby? I know it sounds daft, but it doesn’t rain in there so you have to water regularly! I had (too much) success with basil last year - herbs are easy and easy to use, too.

My greenhouse got up to 58 degrees during the heatwave last summer Shock (get a greenhouse thermometer Grin).

The previous owner put waterbutts everywhere so we're not short of those.

Thanks for the tips. I hadn't thought about cleaning but it probably does need it.

I like the idea of salad and basil so I'll give them a go. Thank you

If has a work bench, get a stool. If it hasn’t got a workbench get one!
Time can pass very quickly when standing sowing or pricking out, it’s better to be sitting.
I keep a plastic tub with potting compost under the bench, for easy access, and a large and small watering can already filled with water, ready for use.
Flowers, such as cosmos do really well started off in a greenhouse. I sometimes cheat and buy pots of seedlings very cheaply from my local nursery, prick them out and grow them on.
Wilkinson’s are great value for plastic seed trays.

work benches, stools, watering cans - all very useful, but the most important thing is a radio.
