Madness to plant an oak tree?

Has anyone planted an oak in their garden? I'm tempted because I love them and miss the 3 gorgeous old specimens in our old garden. It would have to go about 9 feet from my outbuildings and I'm wondering if that's too close and risky for root damage, etc.

You could treat it like a medium term perennial and hoik it out when it gets too big. I do this with spring flowering trees.
