My bamboo is flowering - is it the end?

I start by a disclaimer that I don't care much whether it lives or dies.

However I remember learning ages ago that when bamboo flowers it will die afterwards I'm kind of hoping it does I moved to the property last year and it was already here, it has been kept clipped as a hedge so maybe it's a reaction to me letting it finally grow out?

The bamboo next door, clearly a clone of the same plant, is doing it too.

Has anyone else got this? I'm ever so casually plotting to plant a lovely new Chanomeles japonica in its place....
