Anyone else planted a half standard apple tree recently?

And if so, how long did you have to wait until it bore fruit? I'm very excited as I've planted a 2yr old 1/2 standard in my allotment (an Ellison's orange). It's about 7 ft tall. The nursery said it should provide apples this October, which seems amazing. At the moment it just looks like a big witches' broom! Any tips from other apple growers gratefully received.

Don’t let it bare too much or it will break the branches. Ours was 2 years plus. However just moved and starting again.

Thanks. So should I be removing some buds/ immature fruit if there are too many?

Wait til fruit is set. It will naturally drop some as they get bigger. Just leave one or two on each group. You will get more as the tree gets more sturdy in future years.
