Lawn advice needed.....

My lawn has got loads of 'dead' grass in it. DH raked it the other day and it was really hard work (our garden is 140 foot long).

Is there any equipment we can buy to de-thatch our lawn? and if there is.. what is it called? Anyone know?

Yes you can get electric scarifiers which get all the dead grass and moss etc out - they make it much easier - not sure how much to buy, but you might be able to rent one. I borrow my MIL's but that's probably not much good to you!
