Haven't actually seen it in action, but petals are full of holes

could be caterpillars - try to attract birds into the garden - whatever it is there's at least some chance they'll eat it

earwigs? or possibly birds pecking at the flowers for greenfly and beasties? is it just little holes in the flowers or the flowers nipped off completely?
