I Dad died last year, we are selling his house, probably to developers. He has a beautiful pillar rose that he planted maybe 5 years ago. Does anyone know if it would be safe to move it? And if so when would be the best time of year? Any tips? Thank you.

Yes you can move it. Any time really but now, while it is dormant would be best, Water it well before you move it and allow an hour for the water to soak in before you dig it up. If you have trouble getting it out, it will. probably be because the big tap root has angled off. You can cut into the roots without doing any harm. Prune it once it is planted, then you can see the best angle and which branches are weak. The more you take off the root, then the more you can prune it.
