Do I have to lay down a weed membrane before Astro turf?

I'm just wondering whether I have to lay down a weed membrane before putting down Astro turf?
The area is bare earth which has had grass previously but has failed over the last 2 seasons. There's not enough light for it to grow. They aren't any weeds as again not enough light even for them..
Would like to save some money not putting it down if it's only purpose is to stop the weeds as I'm pretty sure they won't grow as nothing has been able to there.

Unless teh astro turf has something to block plants coming through then I would put membrane down.
I had some membrane put down by professionals who made a seating area for me and they put it down 2or 3 layers thick.
I have membrane down which daffodils have fought their way through. So unless the astro turf has some guarantee you will def need membrane.
