Is it ok, at this time of year, to split plants such as heathers and other spreading plants? If not, can anybody tell me when the best time is. thank you

at expert! But I did work in a heather nursery once and we propagated heathers using softwood cuttings in early summer - they're too woody for division. I assume by spreading plants you mean perennials (do they die down in winter?) and if so you're best dividing them in early spring or late autumn, it's a bit late now I think, partic with this warm dry weather.

Thank you for your reply i was just being a skin flint and trying to save a bit of money by splitting them, but i will wait, i don't want to risk losing what ive got!!
